2021-2022 Virtual Learning

2021-2022 Virtual Learning
Virtual LearningNew Kent County Public Schools is excited that we will be returning to in-person instruction five days per week for all students for the 2021-2022 school year.  Families are encouraged to review the 2021-2022 NKCPS Learning Plan on the division website.

New Kent County Public Schools is not offering an in-house virtual option for the 2021-2022 school year.  We will be partnering with Virtual Virginia and the Department of Education to provide virtual instruction for students with extenuating circumstances approved by the division.

Through Virtual Virginia, students will receive a combination of synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences through a licensed Virginia teacher.  This will not be a New Kent teacher and may not follow the New Kent daily schedule.  In Elementary School, students will take Math, Reading, Science, History, and STEM.  The virtual instruction will not include Art, Music, and Physical Education. In Middle School and High School, students will take courses in Math, Reading, Science, History, and selected electives from the Virtual Virginia catalog of courses.

If there are extenuating circumstances that you feel prevents your child from attending in-person for the 2021-2022 school year and you would like the school division to consider them for the virtual instruction option, please submit a virtual instruction consideration form.  The school division will take into consideration your child’s attendance and academic record when considering your request.  In order to be considered, each student must have adequate internet service to support virtual instruction and identify a household member that will serve as a mentor for the student and follow their progress.  Lastly, this is a year-long commitment for your child to attend instruction virtually.

The virtual instruction consideration forms may be downloaded and printed below and are available in the main office in your child’s school.  All virtual instruction consideration forms must be submitted to the student’s school registrar by July 1st.
