New Kent County Public Schools has announced two key leadership appointments effective July 1, 2025. Mr. Sammy Fudge will return as Principal of New Kent Middle School, a role he previously held over a decade ago, bringing 20+ years of educational leadership experience and most recently serving as an Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction in North Carolina. Additionally, Ms. Megan Worrell has been promoted to Assistant Principal at New Kent Elementary School, advancing from her current roles as math interventionist and administrative intern, where she has led PBIS initiatives and earned recognition as the 2022 William G. Lowry Math Educator of the Year. Both appointments reflect the district's commitment to strong internal leadership development and experienced educational guidance.

Students from New Kent Elementary and New Kent Middle School earned multiple top placements at the National Beta Convention in Louisville, KY, after advancing from state-level competitions. Both schools’ Beta Clubs emphasize academic excellence, leadership, and service, engaging members in community projects and fostering skills for future success.

New Kent County Public Schools is committed to ensuring that all families are aware of Virginia SUN Bucks 2026, a federal program that provides eligible school-age children with a one-time $120 grocery benefit beginning in June 2026. Many students are automatically enrolled based on participation in SNAP, TANF, income-based Medicaid, or the National School Lunch Program, but families who do not meet those criteria may still qualify by applying online, by phone, or by mail before the August 31st deadline. Beginning in the 2026-2027 school year, Right at School will provide before- and after-school enrichment programming for NKCPS Kindergarten through fifth grade students at all three elementary schools, beginning on the first day of school, August 24th, 2026. Available before school starting at 6:30 a.m. and after school until 6:00 p.m. every day that school is in session, the play-based program features homework time, fitness activities, STEM projects, and leadership development aligned to district standards. Flexible scheduling and drop-in care are available, childcare assistance may be available for eligible families pending state licensure, and Right at School is currently hiring part-time staff for NKCPS locations.

The Virginia Department of Education is requesting all parents of children with disabilities receiving special education services to complete the Annual Special Education Parent Involvement Survey for the 2025-2026 school year.
The survey, available in English and Spanish, will remain open through December 11th, 2026.
Parents should complete one survey for each child currently receiving services, with online submission preferred.

New Kent County Public Schools proudly announces the 2025-2026 Support Staff of the Year, honoring outstanding staff members who work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure schools operate smoothly and students are supported every day.
Each year, one support staff member from every NKCPS school is recognized for their dedication and impact. The 2025-2026 school-level honorees are:
- Ms. Kim Dotson, clinic aide at George W. Watkins Elementary School
- Ms. Sandra Berkley, instructional assistant at New Kent Elementary School
- Ms. Laura Wilson, instructional assistant at Quinton Elementary School
- Ms. Yvette Garner, custodian at New Kent Middle School
- Mr. Richard Pennycuff, school security officer at New Kent High School
From this distinguished group, Mr. Pennycuff was selected as the NKCPS Division Support Staff Member of the Year.

NKCPS Kindergarten enrollment for the 2026-2027 school year opens at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17th, 2026. Children must be five years old by September 30th, 2026, to enroll in Kindergarten. Families must confirm their child's zoned elementary school, complete online enrollment forms, and schedule an in-person registration appointment at their assigned school. The registration dates are April 17th, April 24th, May 1st, May 8th, and May 15th, and rising Kindergarten students must attend with a parent/guardian. Families should bring required age, residency, and health documentation.
