NKCPS Announces New Leadership at New Kent Middle School and New Kent Elementary School

New Kent County Public Schools (NKCPS) is pleased to announce two important leadership appointments for the 2025-2026 school year. Both leaders will officially begin their new roles on July 1st, 2025.

Mr. Sammy Fudge has been named the new principal of New Kent Middle School, returning to a role he previously held more than a decade ago. Mr. Fudge brings over 20 years of instructional and administrative leadership experience, most recently serving as Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction for Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools in North Carolina.

He holds a Master of Arts in Education with a concentration in Curriculum Development and Special Education, a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Educational Leadership, and has completed all requirements but dissertation for his doctoral degree in Educational Planning, Policy, and Leadership at The College of William and Mary.

"When I first spoke with Mr. Fudge, I wanted to understand what brought him back to New Kent Middle School, and his response was thoughtful and sincere. He shared a clear purpose and a strong vision that align closely with our division's goals. New Kent Middle School has a solid foundation, and with Mr. Fudge's leadership and the commitment of the school's team, we are looking forward to the incredible progress and growth that lie ahead."

During a June 4th meeting with the New Kent Middle School staff, Mr. Fudge shared his excitement about returning to the division.

"It's truly humbling to stand before you again and return to a place that feels like home. Although it's been more than 10 years, I am honored to serve this community again. Our goal is to work together as a team because when staff are supported and successful, our students will be successful. We'll focus on best practices every day, and we'll make time to enjoy the journey together. I'm ready to get started, and I'm excited to hear your ideas, learn from you, and continue building on the great work already happening here. When we grow together, our students thrive."

In addition, NKCPS is proud to announce the promotion of Ms. Megan Worrell to Assistant Principal at New Kent Elementary School. Ms. Worrell has served the school in several impactful roles, including classroom teacher, math interventionist, and most recently as an administrative intern. She has led division-wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) initiatives, supported after-school academic programs, and contributed to school improvement planning efforts.

A graduate of Longwood University's Administration and Supervision program, Ms. Worrell also holds degrees in Curriculum and Instruction and Sociology from The College of William and Mary. She was named the 2022 William G. Lowry Math Educator of the Year at the elementary level and is known for her student-centered approach and commitment to instructional excellence.

Dr. Therese O'Dea, Principal of New Kent Elementary School, shared her enthusiasm for Worrell's appointment.

"Ms. Worrell has been a dedicated member of the NKES instructional leadership team for the past four years, and we're so excited to see her step into this position. As an internal hire, she already knows and loves our students, staff, and community, and she's ready to continue the positive momentum and culture that are so important to us. She has worked in education for nine years, most recently as our math interventionist and administrative intern. She cares deeply about our River Otters, and she cannot wait to get started."
