Principal's Message

Meet the Proud Principals of New Kent Elementary School:

Principals

Dr. Amy Stamm Principal of New Kent Elementary School
Dear New Kent Elementary Families,

It is with great pride and excitement that I introduce myself as the new proud principal of New Kent Elementary School. I am thrilled at the opportunity to be part of this amazing school and wonderful community. I am  looking forward to working in collaboration with our teachers, staff, students and parents towards great success. It is going to be a great year!

I am joining the New Kent family with 20 years of educational experience spanning grades PreK-12. Prior to my experience as principal, I was an assistant principal and had experiences as a teacher, school counselor, and the division director of testing. I believe in building strong relationships with our students, staff and community; in shared leadership; and in doing what is best for all students. I am also a firm believer in leading by example and that together anything is possible. I am overjoyed to work with you as a partner in education to ensure your child’s success.

On a personal note, I am married and I am a mother of two young men, ages 18 and 19. I am an alumni of Christopher Newport University where I earned a Bachelors; University of West Alabama, where I earned a Master’s in School Counseling; Virginia Commonwealth University, where I earned a Post-Masters in K-12 Supervision and Administration; and most recently, the College of William and Mary, where I earned a doctorate in Educational Leadership.

I am confident that this will be a positive and rewarding experience focused on building the strongest foundation for some of the youngest students in our county. As Principal, my door is always open and I welcome your input. Please feel free to stop in, email me, or call to make an appointment to discuss any concerns, suggestions, or ideas to help make this the best experience for your child and the children of New Kent Elementary School.

Again, I am so grateful for this opportunity and I look forward to working with you on behalf of your child’s education.

Sincerely,

Amy H. Stamm, Ed.D.

Principal

Dr. Therese O'Dea
Assistant Principal

River Otter Community,

I could not be more excited to introduce myself as the Assistant Principal of New Kent Elementary School. I have been a member of our River Otter family for the past 12 years having served as a general education and special education teacher for Kindergarten through Fifth Grades, and it feels like home to me. I believe strongly in the power and right to an education and am a first-generation college alumna. I earned my bachelor's in Elementary Education from The College of William and Mary, my master's in Special Education from Old Dominion University, a post-master’s in Administration and Supervision from Longwood University, and my doctorate from Virginia Commonwealth University in Educational Leadership.

I am the proudest mama to my eight year old son Ryan and his three (labrador retriever) siblings. I love to read, go hiking, and spend time on the water; but I am most fulfilled when I am at NKES surrounded by our incredible students and teachers.

Every single student is valued and contributes to our NKES family, and we welcome them into a loving, productive, and limitless community. Dr. Stamm and I look forward to partnering with our River Otter families, and we cannot wait for all of the growth and memories ahead!

Love,

Dr. O’Dea Assistant Principal
