New Kent County Public Schools will operate on an early-release schedule for all students and staff on Thursday, May 21st.

Early-release day dismissal times are:

• New Kent Middle School: 12:15 p.m.
• New Kent High School: 12:30 p.m.
• Elementary Schools (GWES, NKES, and QES): 1:40 p.m.

New Kent County Public Schools proudly announces the 2025-2026 Support Staff of the Year, honoring outstanding staff members who work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure schools operate smoothly and students are supported every day.

Each year, one support staff member from every NKCPS school is recognized for their dedication and impact. The 2025-2026 school-level honorees are:

• Ms. Kim Dotson, clinic aide at George W. Watkins Elementary School
• Ms. Sandra Berkley, instructional assistant at New Kent Elementary School
• Ms. Laura Wilson, instructional assistant at Quinton Elementary School
• Ms. Yvette Garner, custodian at New Kent Middle School
• Mr. Richard Pennycuff, school security officer at New Kent High School

From this distinguished group, Mr. Pennycuff was selected as the NKCPS Division Support Staff Member of the Year.

New Kent County Public Schools will host an opportunity for students to get sports physicals at New Kent High School on Monday, May 11th, 2026, from 3:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. NKCPS students who are planning to try out for or participate in New Kent Middle School or New Kent High School sports during the upcoming fall season are reminded that a completed VHSL physical must be on file prior to participation.

• Date: Saturday, May 11th
• Time: 3:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m.
• Location: Main entrance of NKHS

This opportunity is open to all NKCPS students. The cost for the physical is $25, payable by cash or check made out to New Kent High School. Students must bring pages 1, 2, 4, and 5 of the VHSL physical form in order to be seen.

The VHSL physical form may be accessed digitally at https://bit.ly/4801B1I. Paper copies are also available outside Mr. Spiak’s office, in the NKMS P.E. hallway, or in the clinics at NKMS and NKHS.

NKCPS Kindergarten enrollment for the 2026-2027 school year opens at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17th, 2026. Children must be five years old by September 30th, 2026, to enroll in Kindergarten. Families must confirm their child's zoned elementary school, complete online enrollment forms, and schedule an in-person registration appointment at their assigned school. The registration dates are April 17th, April 24th, May 1st, May 8th, and May 15th, and rising Kindergarten students must attend with a parent/guardian. Families should bring required age, residency, and health documentation.

The Virginia Department of Education is requesting all parents of children with disabilities receiving special education services to complete the Annual Special Education Parent Involvement Survey for the 2025-2026 school year.

The survey, available in English and Spanish, will remain open through December 11th, 2026.

Parents should complete one survey for each child currently receiving services, with online submission preferred.
